About Us
Howell High School is one of six high schools in the Freehold Regional High School District. Accredited by the Middle States Association and the New Jersey Department of Education, the Howell school community was created in 1963. Howell High School has a comprehensive academic program that provides educational opportunities for all, in accordance with individual needs, interests, and abilities. We take great pride in our school’s academics and extracurricular activities. We proudly say, “We are Howell!”
Howell High School, home to the Fine and Performing Arts and the Humanities Magnet Programs and International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, offers its students a full complement of educational programs. Students who have excelled in their academic challenges have been recognized and honored by the National Merit Scholarship Program, and as Governor’s School participants, Advanced Placement Scholar Winners, and National Honor Society inductees. There are a host of academic recognition programs where Students of the Month, Scholar-Athletes, and Distinguished Scholars are acknowledged not only for their academic prowess but their spirit of community.
Howell High School is a state-of-the-art facility that has become a modern learning environment for ALL students. We have expansive art rooms, an innovation lab, a blackbox theater, two dance studios, a recording studio, a video studio, an additional gymnasium, a fitness center, computer facilities, makerspace rooms, and new science labs. Howell High School students enjoy their “home” and make great use of all that it offers.
With an unprecedented number of All-Region, All-State, All-Shore, and All-National Band and Chorus winners, Howell’s music programs are experiencing tremendous growth. Expanded performance opportunities have developed including through our very own student-operated record label. The Marching Rebels are a competition marching band and continually receive a rating of superior at the USSBA Championships held at Met Life Stadium. Our musical productions have won numerous awards at the Count Basie Theatre for their superior performances. The activity program at Howell also includes 40 extracurricular clubs and 24 interscholastic varsity sports, most with sub-varsity levels. While competing in the highly competitive Shore Conference A-North Division and Central/South Jersey Group IV or V, several team and individual championships have been won. Many of Howell’s coaches have been named Coach of the Year by the Asbury Park Press as well as the Star Ledger, and our athletes are members of All-Division, All-Shore, and All-State Teams. In addition, the Howell Rebel Cheerleaders are a nationally recognized varsity competitive cheering squad.
The Howell High School Parent and Teachers (P.A.T.) organization is the “umbrella” parent organization for the school. The P.A.T. contributes to the total educational community by promoting student success and honoring student achievement in a host of ways. Additionally, there exist several other parent organizations that assist individual clubs, teams, and organizations with their special requests. The Howell High School community is most appreciative of their support!
Lastly, Howell High School offers its students a high caliber and diversified program of study. Howell High School is a dynamic place to be both inside and outside the classroom. As stated by the Middle States Validation Team during its visitation, “Howell High School has a climate of learning and a level of school pride that is outstanding.”
